General Info

Textile Roofs 2017 is scientifically organised by Ms. Prof. Rosemarie Wagner (KIT - Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and is an event of AcaMem (Berlin Academy of Architectural Membrane Structures) operated by academus GmbH as promoter for educational events in the field of Membrane Architecture.

In addition to the well-known format of Textile Roofs, this year a Membrane City Tour is offered on Sunday, May 14th between 12:30 and 18:00, visiting different impressive architectural membrane structures in the city of Berlin.

Objectives

The main objectives of this workshop are to provide fundamental information, as well as presenting the state-of-the-art in textile roof engineering. Above all, the workshop aims to provide practical answers to real-world questions. In addition to a comprehensive programme of lectures presented in English by key figures from the membrane structure industry and academia, opportunity for the study and hands-on development of practical case-studies in an informal tutorial environment will be provided. Among others the following subjects will be addressed

Aufzählung

Introducing Lightweight Structures

Aufzählung

Computational and Physical Modelling

Aufzählung

The Design of Tensile Architecture

Aufzählung

Recent developments in Composites

Aufzählung

Variety of Membrane Structures

The workshop starts on Monday, May 15th and closes on Wednesday, May 17th with a parting drink together with all lectureres, participants, invitees and students.

In addition to a comprehensive programme of lectures presented in English by key figures from the membrane structure industry and academia, opportunity for the study and hands-on development of practical case-studies in an informal tutorial environment will be provided.

During the afternoons we offer a joint participant project with guided design and  development of an erectable structure. Experiments at this hands-on workshop ran with opportunities for both physical and computational modeling under one common topic. Each participant works with advanced and High-End Software products.

In parallel to the regular workshop programme a Textile Roofs 2017 Student's Workshop is organized. The results of this workshop will be discussed with the participants on the afternoon of the last day (May 17th) before a parting drink.

The first day closes with a special guest lecture:

"Fourty Years of Relaxation"

Dr. David Wakefield

Tensys Limited,

Bath, United Kingdom

The workshop banquet takes place on May 16th evening, after a sightseeing trip by tour boat through Berlin at the "Restaurantschiff van Loon" in the pitoresk Urban-harbour of Berlin.

Afternoon Programm

Next to the above mentioned joint project during the afternoons the participants are guided through three different strands in groups:

Aufzählung

Physical Modelling

Aufzählung

Computational Modelling

Aufzählung

Preparation and Erection of the Structure

Aufzählung

Participant Presentations

This gives opportunity to all participants to work on different subjects each afternoon.
